Lin Hsingyueh Biography

Born in Taichung in 1939. During his high school years, he was enlightened by Yang Qidong and studied landscape sketching. After graduating from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, he went to Europe to study painting. In the 1970s, his painting style leaned towards surrealism, using mysterious colors to express objects transcending life and death such as the sun, moon, and animal bones. After 1980, his creative themes focused more on interpreting Taiwan's natural landscape and customs. Through personal visits to high mountains, valleys, and rapid streams, he brought the scenes he witnessed into his paintings, creating a distinctive style that is both magical and rich in primal energy. Beyond his artistic creations, he devoted himself to art education, cultural commentary, and curatorial work across multiple fields, profoundly influencing the development of Taiwan's modern art movement.
